Back to School Well, it is that time of year again! We are headed back to school on Friday, August 15th, so all of those back to school dreams have started. I must say that, since I know most of the students now, they are far less traumatic than they used to be! I can’t wait to run into Marshall. He was in my dream on Tuesday night. I was writing on the board in class, and I turned around. There he was sitting in his old desk smiling at me! I am never quite sure what it could mean, but it was so nice to see him again. Even if it only was mirage…? Actually, all of you have been on my mind, so I can’t wait to see you and hear about your adventures this summer. Why is it that the Willie Nelson song is running through my head right now… You were always on my mind….You were always on my mind….
As I was thinking about all of you, it made me think about a movie we saw on DVD this summer called, The Bucket List. (No, it didn’t have a “Mrs. Fallon” rating, in case you were asking, but it came highly recommended.) It has a lot to say about living life to the fullest and, that term we use all of the time in class, CARPE DIEM (Seize the DAY!). Unfortunately I left my notes in Vermont, but it goes something like this. In the movie, Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman’s character) was remembering that one of his teachers had his students write up a “bucket list”, a list of things that they wanted to do or accomplish before they “kicked the bucket” or died. Now that Carter was in the hospital with cancer, he was creating or recreating this list with his roommate played by Jack Nicholson (which one is the actor? I always get the actor and the golfer confused.). Anyhow… Chambers was talking about the beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians. He said that they believed that when a deceased person arrived at the gates of their version of Heaven, the deceased was asked two questions. “Did you find joy and did you bring joy to others?” Wow! That made me think! Do I find joy? (I know, Andy…I find TOO much joy everyday in everyway!) When I look at your faces in these pictures above, I think I see JOY, and I know that I find JOY! Thank you…I can’t wait to see you on Friday. Happy New Year! |
