From the Desk of Fr. Owen Korte
President's Appeal
Dear Alumni, Benefactors and Friends of Cedar Catholic:
Today, we had our 1st First Friday Mass of the new semester with our students. January 5th is also the Memorial of St. John Neumann. How appropriate because St. John Neumann is one of the early
founders of the Catholic Schools in our nation. He formed the first lay board to help govern and support Catholic Schools making the parochial system into a diocesan system. With the huge influx of immigrants in the 1830’s, he, as Bishop of Philadelphia, had to provide religious instruction to thousands of European immigrants seeking to practice their Catholic Faith in the new world. He founded many parishes and schools in his Diocese and began the same movement across the country. Forty years after he died the Catholic schools of Cedar County began the Catholic education of our immigrant children. So, it was proper that at mass today all the students and teachers received a blessing using a first class relic of St. John Neuman.
I invite you to help us continue the mission of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with our students and families. Our goal is to form not only Disciples of Jesus but Missionary Disciples of Jesus: courageous disciples who are willing to witness to their faith to others. It is the Big Goal of our entire local church, the Archdiocese of Omaha.
I am proud of the growth we have seen in our families, our faculty and our students towards this goal. We need your prayers and continued financial support so that we can continue the mission here at Cedar Catholic. Thank you for your support.
